Do breakfast in style…French Style! A selection of pastries fantastique! Situated at an unlikely location on Great North Rd, this is a bakery that dedicates itself to pastries, and does it so well! Stepping inside you are greeted by authentic French waiters and waitress, and baskets of pastries that are topped-up continually all morning.

Baking: Baskets and baskets of pastries! Almond and chocolate and blueberry are my favourites! Who needs to wait for the French Markets at the weekend when you have Philippe’s?!
Gluten Free Options: Er, I don’t think so.
Temperature & Sunshine factor: I haven’t noticed it ever to be cold, but I have never been on a cold day. Unfortunately the sunny side of this establishment is the counter and the tables are in the shade.
Table size: Good size, just a few tables but usually enough.
Ambiance: Quite dark, but a nice spot to go before work or in the weekends for some authentic French pastry and to read the paper.

Coffee: The coffee could definitely be improved. The one I had on Saturday though was far better than I remembered. If you’re willing to sacrifice a little coffee quality in the name of great pastry, do it!
Service: Très français! So very attentive. They even ask if you need a knife and fork to eat your pastry. You can sit down, order your coffee and pastries, and pay at the end. It is truly the small things that make the difference.
